SCIENCE VOLUNTEERING ECOSYSTEM: THEORETICAL MODELS OF VOLUNTEER MANAGEMENT

In recent decades, scientific projects implemented within the framework of the "Citizen Science" concept have become widespread in the world. In the Russian Federation, since 2022, the regulated term for research projects that comply with the international classification "Citizen Science" is "scientific volunteering". The participation of members of the public who are not professional scientists in research projects is one of the key elements in increasing the effectiveness and relevance of scientific volunteering projects in the Russian Federation. In this regard, strategies for attracting, developing, and retaining science volunteers through a science volunteer project are critical to achieving the goals of a science volunteer project. In the world, the study of volunteer management strategies began in the middle of the 20th century and has developed rapidly due to the explosive growth in the number of research and innovations in the field of personnel management. Over the past decades, various models of volunteer management have been developed around the world. The purpose of this article is to adapt the most effective models of volunteer management for their application in scientific volunteering projects. As part of achieving this goal, the first part of the article provides a brief description of the most common volunteer management models at the time of writing, and the second part of the article presents the ISOTURE, GEMS, and POP models of volunteer science management adopted for science volunteer projects.
